Changing Your Diet Due To Acid Reflux

If you’ve been diagnosed with acid reflux, it’s probably time to start thinking about changing your diet. Everyone’s tastes and lifestyle are different, so the changes to your diet should be sculpted to your personal situation and the advice of your physician. However, a great first step is to pick up a cookbook specifically aimed at those with acid reflux.

In general, foods that are greasy or contain too much daily fat should be avoided. These foods can cause the return of your acid reflux. Too much red meat is also discouraged. If you enjoy drinking wine or other alcoholic beverages, try drinking in moderation since alcohol can have adverse effects on a person who has acid reflux. Fast foods, such as hamburgers, french fries, and chicken nuggets should also be avoided.

While this may seem a bit overwhelming at first, it does not mean that all foods recommended to be avoided must disappear from your menu. This will primarily depend on your stomach and the foods that bother it. Experimentation is the only way to really tell. But for the most part, this list is a good starting point. And remember, it’s often not which foods you eat, but how you prepare them. Deep fried foods generally won’t work for someone with acid reflux. However, if you can bake these same foods instead, they may not aggravate your condition at all.

Ask your doctor for a list of foods that should be avoided and a list of foods that are appropriate for your acid reflux. Also ask which beverages should be avoided. The more you know about the kinds of food you should be eating, the better off you’ll be.
