The impact of exercise on the management of diabetic retinopathy is not yet clear. First of all there are issues that are related to the unique conditions which affect the management of the condition. On the other hand one has to understand that diabetes mellitus is the underlying disease. Therefore the management has to address it appropriately depending on the stage at which the patient has been found. The initial trials did not make a direct link between increased exercise and the reduction of diabetic retinopathy. However there was a belief that the underlying condition had to be dealt with as part of the recovery process.
