Tubal Reversal Cost – Getting The Right Answers
A perusal of Yahoo Answers regarding tubal reversal cost recently led to some amazingly wrong answers being given. In this article, I will take a few of those answers and give you the best information I have from some of the best tubal reversal doctors in the business. In the end, you will see that tubal reversal cost may not be as expensive as you were led to believe.
Some questions were just straight out requests for tubal reversal cost prices, such as the lady who had decided to have the surgery but had no idea of the cost. A respondent told her that the prices were at least $10,000 and on up to $20,000. This, of course, depended upon the doctor. And the answer stated that the success rate for tubal ligation reversal is less than 50%. I’ll address this next. As for the price range offered, the answer was correct to say that the price could get quite high, up to $20,000 and even higher. However, many of the top tubal reversal doctors do not charge that amount. In fact, the leading reversal surgeon at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center only charges $5900 with the discount applied. See his website for more information.
Another point I must make is that the success rate of less than 50% as given in the answer is wrong. This, too, will depend upon your doctor, but in a study pregnancy rate after tubal reversal carried out at the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center in 2007, the rate was up to 87% depending upon several factors. These study results are available at that site for you to review yourself.
An answer to another question about tubal reversal cost stated that the cost was at least $20,000, if not more. Luckily the answer picked as best to that question had better information, but this answer just shows how incorrect the responses received can be. Let me be clear. The price given is not unknown for someone wanting a tubal ligation reversal, but the leading tubal reversal doctors do not charge that amount. More often than not, that is the price quoted by a surgeon who might do a few of these surgeries a year.
Several answers given just told the person asking the question that reversals are expensive, without stating a number, and told them to just do IVF (with the occasional one saying to adopt). The reason given for just going to IVF was that you might end up with IVF anyway as reversals don’t always succeed.
To this I state that on average, IVF costs $10,000 to $12,000 per cycle with an average of three cycles being required. On average, tubal ligation reversal costs $8,000 to $9,000 with only one surgery and you get to try and try over and over each month to have a baby. That can be fun. Again, there are tubal reversal doctors who specialize in doing only this surgery and nothing else (meaning they have lots and lots of experience) who charge a lower cost than the average.
One last answer given that I really have to address was one given a couple years back about how “surgery is like good shoes. You pay more for quality.” To that I have to say, not necessarily. In fact, it appears that the leading tubal reversal doctors in the world, such as those at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, are among the services with lower prices. In fact, they usually charge less than you would find in your local area by contacting OBs, as the answer further suggested. You will find that not only do they usually cost less, they also have much better training and much more experience in performing the operation.
