Natural Remedies For Menopause

Here are several natural remedies for menopause:

Soy: contains phytoestrogens which are estrogen-like substances taken from plants. Some research supports soy rich products as helping with mild hot flashes that are so prevalent in women experiencing menopausal symptoms. The risks of taking soy are still unknown and may not be safe for those women with estrogen dependant cancer.

Other Phytoestrogen Sources: herbs such as black cohash, wild yam, dong quai and valerian root.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy: alternative medicine doctors sometimes prescribed these treatments, which are made from various plant hormones similar to those of a woman’s. Doses can vary from patient to patient as each prescription is hand mixed.

For many women, hormone replacement may not always be necessary or needed. In fact, it can prove hazardous for some. For these women, herbal remedies may assist with some of the more common discomforting menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes.

Pitfalls of Natural Menopause Remedies

Natural menopause remedies do not usually require a prescription. They’re generally sold over the counter in health supplement stores, health food stores, or through alternative medicine clinics. This means that you have to be responsible in taking natural remedies. Three hundred and fifteen medical herbs have been reviewed by the German Health Department’s Commission on Herbal Remedies. Two thirds of the herbs reviewed by the commission were found to be safe and effective. But keep in mind that you should first check with your doctor to make sure they won’t interfere with your current treatment. Then make sure you carefully follow the directions on the label. Finally, be patient with natural rememdies. Give them time to work.
