Prepare Your Child For Summertime Allergies

Have a child with summertime allergies? Why not put together an allergy kit so it’ll be readily available whether they are traveling in the car, going to grandmother’s house or going to a sleepover at a friend’s house?

Summertime allergies can be particularly bothersome to children who spend time away at summer camp. You can make it easier on them by preparing an allergy kit with Kleenex, Vic’s Vapor Rub for sleeping at night, any over the counter allergy medication they may need, and any prescription medication they may be taking. If your child uses an inhaler during allergy season make sure to send this along to camp, along with instructions for the camp counselors.

Make sure you teach your child about his or her allergies and the medications necessary to minimize the discomfort created by their allergies. Older children can be given clear instructions about when they should take their medications, as well as other precautions they can take. Don’t forget to encourage your child to drink fruit juices and plenty of water.

Allergies are annoying when you’re a kid, so every effort you can take to reduce the impact of allergies on your child can help them to enjoy an active, energetic summer.
