Allergies appear to be on the rise in this country. The reason for the rise isn’t fully understood. Some researchers believe its the result of environmental conditions. Other researchers believe it may be related to weakened immune systems. Whatever the cause, continued research has resulted in a number of allergy treatments.
Once the allergen is identified, your doctor will often want to take a cautious approach, prescribing medications according to the degree of reaction you have to the allergen. For milder reactions, he may suggest an over-the-counter medication. However, if your reaction is more severe or if it appears to be tied to related conditions such as asthma, he may take a proactive approach.
What, for instance?
1. Immunotherapy - better known as allergy shots, the approach is to inject microscopic levels of the offending allergen into the allergy sufferer and gradually increase the dose over time to strengthen the immune system.

Asthma is a long-term, sometimes life-long illness, where the symptoms include wheezing, coughing, and difficulty in breathing. Asthma due to the narrowing of the bronchi is called bronchial asthma so as to distinguish it from cardiac asthma which is due to fluid accumulation and is more likely a symptom of an underlying heart disease. Bronchodilators are designed to deal with this bronchial constriction.
Asthma has recently been given attention due to its increase in prevalence. Research says it affects almost one out of five urban children. Some reports say that children outgrew their asthma when they reached a certain age. There is a possibility of recurrence, however, when they reach the age bracket of 30 to 50. Recurrence and first time occurrences of asthma in adults can be attributed to the toxicity of the environment or the work place.
A non-asthmatic naturally does not carry inhalers with them. They dont really need ...

Asthma is a chronic condition characterized mainly by shortness of breath. This is due to a variety of factors that include narrowing or inflammation of the airways, and accumulation of mucus. Asthma can be developed through different factors, some of which are: exposure to environments that cause respiratory infections, and it can be inherited.
Asthma is normally a steady-state type of condition. The onset of it where the airways become narrowed is called an asthma attack, episode, or flare up. Most asthma attacks are due to inadvertently inhaling airborne triggers. These particles irritate the lungs or airways upon contact. Thus, the reaction causes the asthmatic to experience the shortness of breath. Most of the time, a whistling sound known as wheezing, is heard.
Asthma symptoms are included in the list of allergic reactions. Even an asthmatic can experience an asthma attack when they inhale an allergen. Allergic reactions involve swelling; typically in ...
