Though skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, it is also highly treatable and preventable when taking the right precautions. By monitoring your skin frequently and taking preventative measures (such as using sunblock), you can reduce your risk of getting skin cancer. The first thing you should do is make sure that you stay out of the sun as much as possible. Stay in the shade and out of direct sunlight whenever possible. Five Kinds of Skin Cancer
There are five different kinds of skin cancer. All of them are dangerous, though some are of more concern than others. The most common type of skin cancer is Basal cell carcinoma. Over a million Americans develop this cancer each year. Seventy five percent of all skin cancers treated are of this variety. It’s believed that Basal cell carcinoma is the result of spending too much time in the sun. Which explains why this form of skin cancers tends to be found on those areas of the body that receive the most sun exposure. These include the face, scalp, and upper torso.
